EUH208: "Contains (name of sensitising substance). May produce an allergic reaction"
Rules last checked 25 September 2026. A labelling reference, not legal advice.
EUH208 is the CLP supplemental statement "Contains (name of sensitising substance). May produce an allergic reaction". It goes on the label of a mixture that is not itself classified as sensitising but contains a sensitising substance at or above the concentration set in Table 3.4.6 of Annex I: for a skin sensitiser, 0.1% (Category 1 or Sub-category 1B) or 0.01% (Sub-category 1A). That is Annex II, section 2.8.
How it reads on a label
The words in brackets are replaced by the substance names. A candle with three sensitising fragrance substances carries a line such as:
Contains Linalool, Limonene, Geraniol. May produce an allergic reaction.
The names come from your fragrance supplier's safety data sheet or CLP information. The candle and home-fragrance tools print the line from the sensitisers you enter.
When the mixture itself is classified as a sensitiser
Then H317 applies instead, with its pictogram and signal word, and the substances responsible are named in the product identifier (Article 18(3)(b)). Any other sensitising substance present at or above the Table 3.4.6 concentration is still named on the label (Annex II, section 2.8, second paragraph).
In Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the EU
Section 2.8 reads the same in the GB text, so a GB label carries the same line in English; Northern Ireland follows the EU text. In the EU the label is written in the official language of each country where the product is sold (Article 17(2)).
