H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects

Rules last checked 25 September 2026. A labelling reference, not legal advice.

H412 is the CLP hazard statement "Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects". It goes on the label of a mixture classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment, Chronic 3, with no pictogram and no signal word of its own.

Hazard class and categoryHazardous to the aquatic environment, Chronic 3
TypeEnvironmental hazard
Signal wordNone of its own
PictogramNone
Set out inCLP Annex I §4.1 (Label elements; no pictogram/signal word)

On a candle or diffuser label

Whether this statement applies is decided by the classification of the finished fragrance mixture at your load, which your supplier's safety data sheet gives. The candle and home-fragrance tools take that classification and print the statement with its pictogram and signal word, in the order the label needs.

In Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the EU

The statement, its wording and its pictogram are the same in Great Britain, where the label is written in English, and in Northern Ireland, which follows the EU text. In the EU the label is written in the official language of each country where the product is sold (Article 17(2)).
