GHS09: the environment pictogram
Rules last checked 25 September 2026. A labelling reference, not legal advice.
GHS09 is the CLP hazard pictogram with the environment symbol (Annex V, 3.1). Among the hazard classes the candle and home-fragrance tools cover, it goes on the label for:
- Hazardous to the aquatic environment, Acute 1: H400, "Very toxic to aquatic life"
- Hazardous to the aquatic environment, Chronic 1: H410, "Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects"
- Hazardous to the aquatic environment, Chronic 2: H411, "Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects"
The pictogram is a black symbol on a white background inside a red diamond. The candle and home-fragrance tools draw it from the official GHS artwork published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The symbol is the same in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
