GHS06: the skull and crossbones pictogram
Rules last checked 25 September 2026. A labelling reference, not legal advice.
GHS06 is the CLP hazard pictogram with the skull and crossbones symbol (Annex V, 2.1). Among the hazard classes the candle and home-fragrance tools cover, it goes on the label for:
- Acute toxicity (oral), Category 3: H301, "Toxic if swallowed"
- Acute toxicity (dermal), Category 3: H311, "Toxic in contact with skin"
- Acute toxicity (inhalation), Category 3: H331, "Toxic if inhaled"
Precedence
When a label would carry more than one pictogram, Article 26(1) removes some:
- Article 26(1)(b): if GHS06 applies, GHS07 does not appear.
The pictogram is a black symbol on a white background inside a red diamond. The candle and home-fragrance tools draw it from the official GHS artwork published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The symbol is the same in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
