GHS05: the corrosion pictogram
Rules last checked 25 September 2026. A labelling reference, not legal advice.
GHS05 is the CLP hazard pictogram with the corrosion symbol (Annex V, 1.5 and 2.2). Among the hazard classes the candle and home-fragrance tools cover, it goes on the label for:
- Skin corrosion, Category 1 (incl. 1A/1B/1C): H314, "Causes severe skin burns and eye damage"
- Serious eye damage, Category 1: H318, "Causes serious eye damage"
Precedence
When a label would carry more than one pictogram, Article 26(1) removes some:
- Article 26(1)(c): if GHS05 applies, GHS07 does not appear for skin or eye irritation.
The pictogram is a black symbol on a white background inside a red diamond. The candle and home-fragrance tools draw it from the official GHS artwork published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The symbol is the same in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
